NEW. 82 pages, 43 figures, 2003. An English translation, by Richard Watkins, of two reports to the Intercantonal Committee of Jura Industries on the Manufacture of Watches in the United States. The reports, by Jacques David, are dated January 1877 and March 1877. David attended the United States International Exhibition of 1876 held in Philadelphia and was shocked by what he saw. American manufacturers, using modern methods of production had left the Swiss makers well behind in a very competitive industry. The reports were a principal agent in modernising the Swiss industry and shed much light on American methods of the period. Essential reading for American watch enthusiasts. Card covers. (Ref: N616)
