The author, a descendant of Richard Apjohn born circa 1520 has traced and recorded Richard Apjohn's descendants down to the present day. The value of this book to clock enthusiasts is the chapter on the Upjohn clockmakers of Shaftesbury, Topsham, Exeter, Bideford, Plymouth & London in volume 1 and, in the second volume, the fascinating journal of James Upjohn. Volume 2 reproduces two early journals, one of them written in 1783 - The life and Travels of James Upjohn who was born in Shaftesbury, worked for his father in Topsham and Exeter and then moved to London. He was a very successful clock and watch maker, travelled in Germany Belgium, Holland and France, and made a few clocks for James Cox. A fine copy with very good slipcase. A rare item, published in America by the author.
