S/H. 165 pages, 102 plates, 1986. A limited edition of 1000 copies. Turriano, who is better known in Italy and Spain than he is elsewhere, was born about 1510 and trained as a clockmaker in Lombardy. He made several astronomical clocks, automata and planetariums but is also famous for his work as an engineer on hydraulic projects. Cole is probably the best clockmaker of the early Victorian period famed for the elegance of his designs and the quality of his engraving. This book is also very useful for the horology extracts from the 1851 and 1862 London exhibitions, and the 1855 Paris exhibition. O/P. 345 pages, 211 figs., circa 1915. A manual on the theory and mechanical laws governing the construction of timekeeping machines and accepted methods of their maintenance and repairs. The author was a well respected craftsman; he was master watchmaker with the Hampden Watch Company then superintendent with the Seth Thomas Watch Company, the Illinois Watch Company and the South Bend Watch Company. Although the title page is dated 1913, the book was not published until after the authors death in 1915. A good copy of the 1st edition, with a few minor annotations in pencil, skilfully re-backed using original boards with original spine laid down. (Ref: K1586)

He is also credited with making the Saviour's Tower clock and was clock-keeper to the Russian court.
