A very important paper as the author, who worked for Bell telephone Laboratories in New York, built the first clock controlled by the constant frequency of the oscillation of a quartz crystal in 1927. NEW. 142 pages, illustrated, 2005. J. T. Gent, founded the Leicester based business in 1872 making electrical, mechanical and pneumatic products as well as equipment to produce and store electricity. Clock manufacture started in 1895 and electric master clock and slave dial production started around 1900. This electrically driven 'waiting train' clock, installed in 1911 has four dials, each 25 feet in diameter, on two towers. The electro-mechanical chiming system was installed in 1954. Card covers.
