Turner (A.J.): William Oughtred, Richard Delamain and the Horizontal Instrument in Seventeenth Century England
O/P. 25 pages, 4 plates, 1981. The horizontal instrument could be used to tell the time and to determine the position of the sun throughout the year, the double horizontal dial is an adaptation of it. 30 years after the instrument's invention Oughtred and Delamain had a major dispute as to who actually was the inventor.
