Bracket clock by Peter Pohlmann, London dated 1760

Peter Pohlmann, London dated 1760

This clock has a verge escapement and is signed on the engraved backplate Peter Pohlmann London. The clock has the name Thomas Neale on the silvered chapter ring and the date 1760. Presumably Neale was the original owner of the clock.

The mahogany veneered bell top case has brass caryatids to the front corners with (replaced) decorative wooden frets to the side apertures. Unusually the clock has brass feet to the front corners and matching mahogany feet to the rear.

Case height 20 inches including handle.

Peter Pohlmann is recorded as working in London (Leadenhall St and Drury Lane) between about 1760 and 1775. The tradition handed down with the clock is that Thomas Neale was an Ipswich notary.
