The plate was drawn by Fossier and engraved by Benard (Fossier del.;
Benard direxit)
It is interesting to study this plate. The artist/engraver have
included several clocks in the picture but no clockmaking tools - a lathe and
wheel cutting engine for example. The gentlemen at the benches appear to be
engaged in watch work using small hand tools .The two standing figures are perhaps
the workshop owner and a client. Several clocks are arranged around the room
awaiting repair or collection.
The lower half of the plate shows eighteenth century tools. It is impossible to
say if the tools are for clock or watch work as no size or scale is given.
