An Engraving of Richard Green's Lichfield Clock, dated 1748

An engraving from the Universal Magazine for August 1748 showing the case and movement of an unusual musical clock with automata.

The print has the title A Draught of a curious Clock in the possession of Mr Richd Green of Litchfield and details of the publisher Engrav’d for the Universal Magazine for J. Hinton at the King’s Arms in St. Paul’s church yard London, 1748.

The clock was purchased by Lichfield resident Richard Green in the 1740’s and displayed by him in his Museum of Curiosities. The clock is now in the Art Gallery above the public library in Bath. The clock case was described as being 5 feet 2 inches high so the two figures in the print are totally out of proportion!
