[Sotheby's]: Masterpieces from the Time Museum Part 4 Volume 2 Chronometers and Scientific Instruments
O/P. 196 lots, all illustrated in colour. The closure of the Time Museum and the dispersal of its collections at Sotheby's in 2004 has left us with 3 excellent catalogues as a permanent memorial. This catalogue of the chronometers and scientific instruments includes a replica of Harrison's 'H1', Mudge Green, and chronometers by Arnold, Earnshaw, Margetts, Pennington, Kullberg and Loseby. Also in the catalogue are 3 items made by Anthony Randall for the collection plus a chronometer with 4 differential linked movements. The scientific instruments, all related to time, include examples from Persia, the Ottoman Empire, India, Japan and China as well as Europe and America. A fine copy, card covers. Cave-Browne-Cave (B.W.): Jonas Barber Clockmaker of Winster
O/P. 269 pages, 10-page index, 1979. A very detailed account about the Barber family and the clocks they made. The Barbers numbered their clocks hence this is a useful guide to the progression of styles. The book also covers the Philipson family who continued the Barber numbering system. Daniels (G.): Watchmaking
O/P. 420 pages, 23 plates, 777 figures, 3rd edition, reprinted 2002. A superb book, by the world's greatest living watchmaker, which explains in detail how to design and make all the parts of a watch. The drawings by David Penney are excellent and make all the techniques described in the text easily understandable. Daniels' aim in writing the book was to inspire and encourage the art of watchmaking - the aim has been achieved as the book has been constantly in demand since it was first published in 1981. Reid (T.): Treatise on Clock and Watch Making, Theoretical and Practical
O/P. iv, 466 pages, 19 folding plates, 2nd edition, 1846. The second edition of this celebrated work by Thomas Reid, the famous Edinburgh clock and watch maker. The book is a comprehensive treatise on clocks, watches and chronometers with information on orreries and turret clocks. Basically a good copy with trivial foxing to the pages, half-title page missing. The plates, title page and end papers with foxing and stains caused by water. The book is still in its original binding, the boards now a little marked. (1.1 kg)

Salomons (D.L.): Breguet (1747 - 1823)
O/P. Frontispiece, ix, 233 pages, 1921. Only 1000 copies printed. This is the original English edition and includes the appendix and addenda but not the 52 page supplement which was issued separately. Well illustrated in b&w. This is the classic work on Breguet by Sir David Salomons who had a large collection of Breguet's work. This and George Daniels' book - The Art of Breguet - are essential reading for all students and enthusiasts of Breguet's work. A very good copy in the original blue thin card covers. The book and the covers are very clean, with slight creasing to the spine. 90 years on, you will not find a better copy.
