The Christie's sale catalogue (illustrated) for the famous Ilbert collection; the collection was sold to the British Museum prior to the auction. A good copy, the boards a little discoloured. Star of the sale was an English astronomical skeleton timepiece with mean solar and sidereal time by James Shearer. Another unusual item was the gilt-metal striking chamber clock dated 1610 by John Smith of Kings Lynn. Another item built to impress was a mahogany longcase clock by Thomas Ogden of Halifax with a magnificent case attributed to James Paine and Thomas Chippendale. The Professor Hall collection of 56 lots included a fine month going Tompion loncase keeping sidereal time, a rare astromomical skeleton timepiece by James Gorham of London, a Congreve clock by Joseph Moxon circa 1820, a fine skeleton clock by James Condliff, a set of 4 fine escapement models, Hall's famous Littlemore clock and various scientific instruments. Many of the best watch sales are held in Geneva these days and this illustrated catalogue of 320 lots includes the exceptional Patek Philippe pocket watch, with one minute tourbillon and platinum case, made for Henry Graves. Other highlights were a unique marine chronometer with one minute tourbillon and spring detent escapement by James Pellaton, and a rare Breguet pocket watch.
